We have had a truly exciting month at SUMARIE and have so much great news to share. As all Sumarie fans already know, Angelina Jolie is surely one of our favourite celebs, and definitely a Sumarie Woman! As the identikit shows, Angelina has all the features of the inspiring, confident and charismatic women that we want to represent, here at Sumarie. 

Besides, what better time to talk about her than right now, a few weeks after her wedding with Brad Pitt? After a nine-year long relationship and a few kids, they finally said "I do" in their French chateau. In her Versace white gown, beautified by the drawing of her children, Angelina was

just breathtaking! 

Sumarie London Fashion Week Success 2014

After a very busy couple of months of build up, suddenly the most talked about fashion event in the capital was upon us, London Fashion Week 2014.

 Here at Sumarie we had a hectic but fun Summer with Pop Up stores and launch events, and not to mention the ultimate beach inspired party, Marie's gorgeous Ibiza wedding at the end of August.

With the usual preparations for the annual collection of established and new generation designers, we found ourselves preparing to be the first Swimwear and Lifestyle brand showing at LFW for the second year running. Marie single-handedly showcased as the only Swim & Beachwear designer last year and found herself pioneering the way for fellow likeminded designers in 2014; which she describes as an honour and a privilege. 

Friday started as a quintessentially London morning, grey skies and crowded commutes. However lunchtime brought out a scorching sunshine that only heightened the relaxed and beachy atmosphere in our Designer Showroom. The vibe was buzzing in the courtyard, the consistently impressive wardrobes and media interest emanating through the balcony and the tall windows into the New-Gen Designer Halls in Somerset house. Sumarie was presenting in a perfectly cool and calming room, shared by the incredible duo Anna and Ella; the creative masterminds and silk Pyjama pioneers behind  the printed silk brand, Yolke. 

We were visited by many people over the course of the week, but Fridays crowd seemed to be fuelled by the sunshine and the obligatory Coconut Water. The late Summer vibe was infectious and we got some great shots of our gorgeous in-house model Hannah who wore the Melanie swimsuit in the sunshine on Tom's terrace behind Somerset house. All that was missing were the cocktails and the pool!

On Saturday we had a great day with the constant flow of the press and the SS15 was received extremely well. Visitors were drawn particularly to Marie's award winning 3D Cubed Lycra waistbands on the 'St. Germain' Swimsuits and the show-stopping 'St. Honore' Swimsuit from the 'Glamour Marin' collection. We received amazing feedback from the press and got some more great shots of Hannah using the incredible Somerset House location as an inspiring metropolitan backdrop.

Sunday was an exciting day where we managed to explore the halls and discover some truly incredible up and coming brands. As the new year approaches we are keeping our eyes out for designers and brands to collaborate with to continue nurturing the Sumarie Spirit . Some designers who were seriously inspiring for me were Noritamy - a Jewellery brand who use polymers to recreate Volcanic geological necklaces and bracelets, the supplest Swedish inspired Leather goods bran Gvyn and bundle of embroidered-playfulness Mochi - who like Sumarie, is on a constant journey that reflects perfectly in her designs. 

Sunday evening brought a lovely close to a hectic weekend - Cocktails on Tom's terrace as the sun set behind the London eye and the river. We soaked up the creativity of the surrounding designers and enjoyed the talk of exciting collaborations in the future.   

Monday started with busy traffic of international press and visits from respected buyers and investors alike. It was a hectic day of business card swapping and talks of the future, as our week at Somerset House drew near the end.

Monday was an exciting day as we received a visit from the team from One & Only resorts and decided to celebrate our London Fashion Week success with some bubbles.

We ended the day in the Esthetica main room where the champagne reception called for swapping success stories with the other designers and continuing possible collaboration leads. It has been a truly honourable privilege representing the Swimwear category with Sumarie's stunning SS15 La Vie Parisienne collection and we can't wait to catch up with everyone we met at London Fashion Week 2014.

Jennifer Lopez, 35 years old and still standing the ground of her younger colleagues! A few days after her unforgettable performance at the opening ceremony of the World Cup, she decided to treat herself with some well-deserved rest by the pool with her friends and family.
JLo looks gorgeous in these pictures that she published on Instragram last week, accompanied by the caption "No makeup day! #realface #trueselfie #iwokeuplikethis".

Monica Bellucci: Sumarie Woman

Turning 50 and looking gorgeous. Monica Bellucci debuted in fashion in 1988, working for the Italian branch of Elite Model Management in Milan. Her typically Mediterranean beauty became soon famous, leading her to pose for world famous fashion magazines and haute couture brands. Despite the immediate success, shortly after Monica decided to put herself to the test and to chase her dream to become an actress. Ambitiously motivated to aim high, in the 90s and 2000s, she performed in several Hollywood movies and was nominated for a number of important awards.

In 1999 Monica married charming Vincent Cassel (even though they divorced last year…), moved to Paris and had two beautiful children. While pregnant, she posed for the Italian Vanity Fair in protest against Italian laws, that prevent the use of donor sperm. 

Monica is currently new face of Dolce and Gabbana, looking more and more stunning as time goes by…

Downton's Dockery

“She’s worked. She’s 30. She’s ready. There’s a sense with her of ‘Isn’t this great? This is a golden hour!’ And I love that in a person, when they know.”  This is how renowned fashion illustrator David Downton to describe Michelle Dockery, rising star in the international movie landscape and leading actor in the famous British series “Downton Abbey”. 

The artist, known as the “master of the light touch that goes deep,” met 32-year-old Dockery last year at Claridge’s in London, for a three-hour photo-shoot that produced a unique spread of photographs in the online U.S. Vanity Fair. 

David Downton further described Dockery as “classic and contemporary at the same time," and “very intelligent and alive to life." These characteristics surely make this great actress a Sumarie woman and we look forward to seeing more from her in the coming years!

Cameron's 'Body Book' to live healthily

"One of my proudest moments! Receiving the first bound copy of The Body Book!! @thebodybook LADIES!! I wrote this book for YOU and YOUR BODY.. And I'm so excited to share it with you!!"

This is the caption that accompanied the stunning make-up free picture that 41-year-old actress Cameron Diaz published on Instagram as she received a bound copy of her first book. 

"The Body Book" is an empowering handbook aimed at teaching women -- and young girls in particular -- how to live happier, healthier and stronger lives by focusing on being healthy instead of being thin.

Cameron has been a role model throughout her long career and she is now sharing her knowledge and values on living well, the same values Sumarie believes in.

Corinne Day: May The Circle Remain Unbroken

Corinne Day is a British photographer whose influence on the style and perception of photography in the early 1990s has been immense. As a self taught photographer, Day brought a more hard edged documentary look to fashion image making, in which she often included biographical elements.

Day is known for forming long and close relationships with many of her sitters (most famously Kate Moss), which have resulted in candid and intimate portraits. The most notable of these being the photographs of Moss in the 3rd Summer of Love editorial for the FACE magazine in 1990. Days approach as illustrated within the lifestyle and fashion magazines of the 1990s, came to be known as grunge and grew into an international style.

In 1993 Day photographed Kate Moss in her own flat for British Vogue. In the context of a fashion magazine the images appear to have a documentary feel about them and when published caused a certain frisson of discomfort.

Corinne was diagnosed with a slow growing, grade 2 brain tumour called an Oligo Astrocytoma in November 1996 at the Bellevue hospital in New York, after which Corinne returned to London for brain surgery at the Whitechapel hospital in December 1996. The surgeon and oncologist then gave Corinne a prognosis of 8 years left to live. Corinne was not expected to live past 2004. However Corinne outlived this prognosis by over 6 years, passing away in 2010 instead of 2004.

Sumarie Hightlight: Diana

She was loved, an icon, a human right fighter and a mother. After a tragic death we embrace Naomy Watt’s performance in recreating her  last summer and the woman that she was.
